Die San Francisco State University ist Teil des renommierten Systems der California State Universities und besteht aus sieben verschiedenen Colleges: Liberal and Creative Arts, Business, Education, Ethnic Studies, Extended Learning, Health and Social Sciences sowie Science and Engineering.

Studiengänge werden sowohl im Undergraduate- als auch im Postgraduate-Bereich angeboten. College Contact kann Studenten für ein bis zwei Auslandssemester, ausgewählte Aufbau-, Bachelor-, Master-, MBA- und Promotionsstudiengänge sowie für Summer Sessions und Sprachkurse an die SF State vermitteln.

Campus

Im Südwesten von San Francisco, nur anderthalb Kilometer vom Pazifischen Ozean und ebenfalls nicht weit von der Innenstadt entfernt, liegt der Hauptcampus der San Francisco State University.

Hier ist alles vorhanden, was die Studenten für ein erfolgreiches Studium und zum Wohlfühlen brauchen. Außerdem liegen Freizeitmöglichkeiten wie Geschäfte, Restaurants etc. ganz in der Nähe.

Der zweite Standort der San Francisco State University, Downtown Campus, befindet sich mitten im Nordosten der Stadt, nicht weit entfernt von der San Francisco Bay. Die Universität belegt hier eine riesige Fläche im fünften und sechsten Stock des Westfield San Francisco Centre.

Die 33 Klassenräume sind rund um ein wunderschönes gläsernes Atrium gruppiert, das den Studenten tolle Ausblicke in alle Richtungen, auch nach unten in eine Shoppingmeile, bietet.

Dann gibt es noch kleinere Ableger der Universität wie zum Beispiel ein Camp in der Sierra Nevada oder die Moss Landing Marine Laboratories.

Die Hochschulstadt San Francisco

San Francisco ist mit 740 000 Einwohnern die viertgrößte Stadt des US-Bundesstaates Kalifornien, liegt an der Spitze der San Francisco-Halbinsel und ist der Mittelpunkt der San Francisco Bay Area. Die Stadt ist die am zweitdichtesten besiedelte in den USA.

Besonders bekannt ist sie für den monatelang auftretenden Nebel, die 43 steilen Hügel innerhalb der Stadtgrenzen, die Mischung aus viktorianischer und moderner Architektur und die Lage, denn sie ist von drei Seiten vom Pazifischen Ozean und der San Francisco Bay umgeben.

Bekannte Orte in der Stadt sind die Golden Gate Bridge, die Insel Alcatraz, die Cable Cars, die Transamerica Pyramid und Chinatown. Neben Alcatraz gehören noch weitere Inseln zum Stadtgebiet, darunter Treasure Island und die benachbarte Yerba Island. Einige Viertel sind nach dem Hügel benannt, auf dem sie liegen, wie Nob Hill, Pacific Heights, Russian Hill oder Telegraph Hill.

Das Klima in San Francisco ist mediterran mit milden Wintern und warmen Sommern. Die Jahresdurchschnittstemperaturen schwanken zwischen 10 °C und 17 °C.

Seine Freizeit kann man sehr gut im größten und bekanntesten Park der Stadt verbringen, dem Golden Gate Park, der sich vom Stadtzentrum bis hin zum Ozean erstreckt. Hier gibt es Tausende von nicht einheimischen Bäumen und Pflanzen, und er hat einige Attraktionen zu bieten wie das Conservatory of Flowers, den japanischen Teegarten und das Strybing Arboretum. Der älteste Park der Stadt ist der Buena Vista Park, und ein bekanntes Museum ist das Museum of Modern Art.

Beschreibung

Das Programm Business Administration soll innerhalb von zwei Semestern den Studenten eine breite Grundlage in Betriebswirtschaft vermitteln.

Das Certificate in International Business erlangt man innerhalb von zwei Semestern. Es vermittelt seinen Teilnehmern Kernkompetenzen für die internationale Wirtschaft.

Im Programm Hospitality and Tourism Management erwerben die Teilnehmer Grundkenntnisse der BWL und der professionellen Führung in der Tourismusbranche.

Die Kurse sind vor allem zur Vertiefung der eigenen Fähigkeiten bzw. zum Erlernen eines völlig neuen Bereiches vorgesehen. Mit einem Aufbaustudiengang hat man häufig die Möglichkeit, sich im Berufsleben zu verändern oder auch auf der Karriereleiter weiter nach oben zu klettern.

Die San Francisco State University bietet internationalen Studierenden die Optionen, für ein oder zwei Auslandssemester in einer der vielfältigsten Städte der Welt zu studieren. Ihnen steht dabei eine breite Auswahl von Kursen aus dem regulären Studienangebot der Uni in Business, Engineering, Design, Communications, International Relations, Social Sciences und vielen weiteren Bereichen offen.

In den meisten dieser Fächer können Kurse sowohl auf Bachelor- als auch auf Masterniveau belegt werden, ausgeschlossen sind jedoch Masterkurse in Business und einige Kurse aus dem Bereich Education.

Die bei den Certificates angegebenen Gebühren gelten jeweils für ein ganzes Studienjahr, also zwei Semester. Die Gebühren für ein Semester betragen dementsprechend die Hälfte.


Finanzierungsmöglichkeiten

Wer ein Auslandssemester an der San Francisco State University verbringt, kann unter anderem Auslands-BAföG beantragen. Förderungsberechtigte Studierende erhalten einen Zuschuss zu den Studiengebühren bis zu EUR 5.600, eine Reisekostenpauschale und einen Zuschuss zu Krankenversicherung und Lebenshaltungskosten.

Beschreibung

Das Summer in San Francisco-Programm der San Francisco State University gibt internationalen Studierenden die Möglichkeit, eine oder zwei Summer Sessions in einer der vielfältigsten und kulturell aufregendsten Städte der Welt zu verbringen.

Erlebe den typisch amerikanischen College-Spirit auf dem lebendigen Campus der SF State und wähle aus dem breiten Summer Sessions-Angebot der Uni die Kurse, die am besten zu dir passen. Von Finance und International Business bis hin zu Geisteswissenschaften und Naturwissenschaften ist alles dabei.

In deiner Freizeit hast du außerdem die einmalige Gelegenheit, die bunten Stadtviertel San Franciscos und die San Francisco Bay Area zu erkunden sowie die innovative Geschäftswelt der "City of Ideas" aus erster Hand zu erleben. Die Uni bietet dazu zahlreiche Ausflüge und gemeinsame Aktivitäten an.

Die Summer Sessions der SF State dauern jeweils fünf Wochen. Es können auch beide nacheinander belegt werden. Die Teilnahme ist auch im Online-Format möglich.


Gebühren

Die Gebühren für die Teilnahme an den Summer Sessions der San Francisco State University berechnen sich je nach der Anzahl der belegten Units. Internationale Studierende müssen mindestens 6 Units pro Session belegen.


Voraussetzungen

Internationale Bewerber für die Summer Sessions der San Francisco State University müssen das Abitur haben oder bei Beginn der Summer Sessions mindestens 18 Jahre alt sein.

Sie müssen zudem über ausreichende Englischkenntnisse verfügen. Diese können durch das Erreichen einer Mindestpunktzahl in einem standardisierten Sprachtest wie dem TOEFL oder IELTS nachgewiesen werden. 

Die Sprachkenntnisse können durch eines der folgenden Testergebnisse bzw. Dokumente nachgewiesen werden:

Beschreibung

Studenten an der San Francisco State University haben zusätzlich zu dem bestehenden Angebot an Masterstudiengängen auch eine Reihe von MBA-Programmen zur Auswahl, die jeweils im Frühling und Herbst anlaufen. Diese führen zum Abschluss Master of Business Administration und sollen gezielt auf Führungspositionen im Management vorbereiten. Studierende können sich in verschiedenen Bereichen, wie zum Beispiel Finance, Leadership, Marketing oder Hospitality and Tourism Management spezialisieren und zwischen einem Studium in Voll- oder Teilzeit wählen.  

Alle MBA-Programme an der SFSU beinhalten professionelle Workshops mit Führungskräfte-, Kommunikations- und Präsentationstraining. Je nach Vorwissen gibt es verschiedene Vorbereitungskurse, die "Foundation Courses", die Studierenden das nötige Hintergrundwissen vermitteln, um sie optimal auf die darauffolgenden "Advanced Requirements" vorzubereiten.

Für Manager, die mindestens 7 Jahre Berufserfahrung mitbringen, wird zusätzlich ein Executive MBA-Programm (EMBA) angeboten. In einem Zeitraum von 22 Monaten erlangen Studenten ihren MBA-Abschluss. Das Studium richtet sich speziell an Berufstätige, die ein Studium neben dem Beruf absolvieren möchten. 

Die MBA-Programme sind allesamt von der renommierten Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) akkreditiert, der zentralen Akkreditierungseinrichtung für MBA-Programme. Wer sich für einen MBA an der SFSU entscheidet, studiert am College of Business auf dem exklusiven Downtown Campus, im Herzen von San Francisco. Das seit 1964 akkreditierte College of Business steht für eine qualitativ hochwertige Ausbildung im wirtschaftswissenschaftlichen Bereich. 


Gebühren

Voraussetzungen

Studenten, die sich für ein MBA-Programm bewerben möchten, benötigen einen guten Bachelorabschluss. Außerdem werden drei Jahre Berufserfahrung empfohlen. Für das EMBA-Programm müssen Bewerber eine mindestens siebenjährige Berufspraxis vorweisen können. Auch eine bestimmte Punktzahl im GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) wird vorausgesetzt. Alternativ dazu wird auch der GRE (Graduate Record Examination) akzeptiert. 

Darüber hinaus werden von Bewerbern ausreichende Englischkenntnisse verlangt. Als Nachweis dient eine Mindestpunktzahl in einem standardisierten Sprachtest wie dem TOEFL oder dem IELTS. 

Je nach MBA-Programm können individuelle Voraussetzungen hinzukommen, über die sich Studieninteressierte vorab informieren sollten.

Beschreibung

Abiturienten haben die Möglichkeit, direkt nach der Schule ein Academic Gap Year an der San Francisco State University zu absolvieren. Dazu müssen sie noch nicht an einer anderen Hochschule eingeschrieben sein.

Im Rahmen des Gap Years können sie Kurse aus dem Liberal and Creative Arts Program belegen, das den Studenden einen Einblick in die freien und kreativen Künste vermittelt.

Durch eine breite Palette von Kursen, von denen viele auch allgemeinbildende Kurse sind, erhalten die Studenten einen umfassenden Einblick in die Geisteswissenschaften, die Kunst und die Sozialwissenschaften.

Die Gebühren für das Liberal an Creative Arts Program gelten jeweils für ein komplettes Studienjahr. Dementsprechend betragen die Gebühren für ein Semester die Hälfte.

Voraussetzungen

Zugangsvoraussetzung für die Teilnahme am Liberal and Creative Arts Program ist das Abitur mit einem Notendurschnitt von mindestens 3,0.

Bewerber müssen außerdem ausreichend gute Englischkenntnisse mitbringen. Diese können über einen standardisierten Sprachtest wie den TOEFL oder IELTS nachgewiesen werden.
