Beschreibung der Hawaii Pacific University Die HPU ist eine in wunderschöner Umgebung gelegene Universität, die sich stetig im Wachstum befindet. Durch ihre multikulturelle Ausrichtung lernen die Studenten neben dem fachlichen Unterricht in erster Linie intellektuelles Engagement und soziale Verantwortung. Es gibt eine Vielzahl von Studiengängen in den unterschiedlichsten Fachrichtungen, die ständig aktualisiert werden. Alle Unterrichtsräume sind technisch hochmodern ausgestattet, und beide Campi haben ihre eigene Bibliothek mit insgesamt etwa 150 000 Bänden. Zur Universität gehört auch das Oceanic Institute, wo Forschung zu allen möglichen Fachgebieten betrieben wird, die das Meer und seine Bewohner betreffen.

Lage der Hawaii Pacific University
Die Hawaii Pacific University besitzt zwei Standorte, die durch den Intercampus Shuttle Service miteinander verbunden sind. Die Busse fahren die Strecke von 13 Kilometern alle 15 Minuten, so dass man schnell und bequem von einem Campus zum anderen gelangt. Ein Campus befindet sich im Finanz- und Regierungszentrum von Hawaii in Honolulu und besteht aus sieben Gebäuden mitten in der aufregenden Downtown-Atmosphäre. Der andere Campus liegt in Kaneohe in den Ausläufern der Ko´olau Mountains mit viel herrlicher Natur. Hier haben die School of Nursing und das College of Natural Sciences ihren Sitz.
Honolulu ist die Hauptstadt des Archipels Hawaii und liegt an der Südküste der Insel Oahu. In der Stadt und ihrem Einzugsbereich leben fast 900 000 Menschen aus dem gesamten pazifischen Raum, weshalb es keine ethnische Majorität gibt, sondern ein buntes Gemisch aus westlichen, polynesischen und asiatischen Einflüssen. Weil sie die einzige tropische Stadt der USA ist, bietet Honolulu die typischen kilometerlangen weißen Sandstrände, Palmen, mildes Klima mit einer Durchschnittstemperatur von 27 °C, exotische Früchte und alles andere, was man mit den Tropen in Verbindung bringt. Von hier aus kann man schnell alle Inseln Hawaiis für einen Ausflug in die Natur erreichen. Honolulu ist eine der Städte mit der saubersten Luft in der ganzen Welt, hat aber dennoch alle Vorzüge einer modernen Großstadt. Es gibt ein lebendiges Nachtleben mit Bars und Diskotheken, aber auch kulturelle Unternehmungen kommen nicht zu kurz: Das Contemporary Museum of Arts und das Bishop Museum sind auf jeden Fall einen Besuch wert. Besonders im Vordergrund steht auf Hawaii der Sport, und wichtige Events wie beispielsweise der Ironman Triathlon oder der Triple Crown of Surfing finden hier statt.

Voraussetzungen:Wenn man an Summer Sessions teilnehmen möchte, sollte man bereits mindestens ein Jahr an einer deutschen Universität studiert haben, für manche Fächer zwei Jahre. Dabei sollten die Noten über dem Durchschnitt liegen. Die Graduate-Kurse können sogar nur mit einem Bachelorabschluss besucht werden.
Wenn man nicht aus einem englischsprachigen Lamd stammt, muss man darüber hinaus noch durch eine Mindestpunktzahl beim TOEFL-Test oder IELTS ausreichende Englischkenntnisse unter Beweis stellen. Unterkünfte der Hawaii Pacific University Studentenwohnheim
Die HPU bietet ihren Studenten sowohl im Spring- als auch im Fall Semster, die Möglichkeit eine Unterkunft im Studentenwohnheim (Residence Halls) auf dem Windward Hawai'i Loa Campus zu finden.
Die Studentenwohnheimzimmer sind entweder als Doppelzimmer oder als Dreibettzimmer ausgelegt, sind voll möbliert und verfügen über ein eigenes Bad
Da die verfügbaren Plätze auf dem Windward Hawai'i Loa Campus recht knapp sind, sind diese auch recht schnell ausgebucht. Zudem sollte bedacht werden, dass der Windward Hawai'i Loa Campus circa 20 Minuten mit dem Shuttle Bus vom Downtown Hauptcampus entfernt gelegen ist. Besonders gut geeignet ist die Unterkunft im Studentenwohnheim für jüngere Studenten, da man sich hier recht schnell einleben kann.

Private Apartments / Hotels
Die HPU verfügt über keine eigenen Off-Campus Wohnmöglichkeiten, bietet aber auf der Housing Internetseite einige Informationen zur Unterkunft außerhalb des Campus an.
So sind über den privaten Anbieter Century Campus Housing Management (CCHM), welcher von der HPU empfohlen wird, Apartments für ein bis drei Personen zu finden. Die Unterkünfte sind alle in Honolulu, nahe dem Downtown Campus und Waikiki gelegen, und können per Bus erreicht werden.

Die Unterkunft in einer Gastfamilie ist ideal für diejenigen, die das Leben in einer amerikanischen Familie hautnah erleben möchten und konstant Englisch sprechen wollen. Die Gastfamilien sind in der Regel sehr interessiert daran, ihre Studenten so gut wie möglich zu unterstützen und tun viel für deren Wohlbefinden. Der Gast wird im Grunde als Teil der Familie aufgenommen, hat sein eigenes Zimmer und isst gemeinsam mit der Gastfamilie.
Wer sich überlegt, während des Gastsemesters bei einer amerikanischen Familie zu wohnen, sollte sich jedoch natürlich über gewisse Regeln des Zusammenlebens im Klaren sein.
