A 75 Year-Long History in the Fashion & Design Industry - The Birth of a Talent: Behind the Scenes of Istituto Marangoni
Our Heritage
Istituto Marangoni was founded in 1935 using the name of “Art Institute of Textiles Marangoni” by Giulio Marangoni, a bespoke tailor from Milan, famous for having designed for the aristocracy. Since its foundation, the Institute’s mission has been to educate highly skilled professionals for the fashion industry.
In keeping with its mission, Istituto Marangoni expanded and developed in parallel with the Italian fashion industry, creating opportunities for young creative talent, thereby providing an immediate and pro-active response to market trends.
During the 80’s, Fabio Marangoni established control of the Institute and brought significant innovation to the school’s educational portfolio, tailoring its direction to complement the Italian and international fashion system’s needs. In accomplishing this, Istituto Marangoni gradually abandoned its historical production and modeling classes to become a leader in the fashion & styling system.
Today, Istituto Marangoni offers a wide variety of courses and Master programs designed to shape professionals, enabling them to approach the most relevant disciplines for companies: Fashion Business, Fashion Buying, Brand Management and E-fashion. In recent times Istituto Marangoni enriched its educational portfolio by launching an innovative design department, covering a rising general interest in Interior Design.
Istituto Marangoni taught three generations of students, a total of over 35.000 professionals, some of which have become internationally recognized such as: Franco Moschino, Domenico Dolce (Dolce & Gabbana), Maurizio Pecoraro, Alessandro De Benedetti, Stefano Guerriero, Alessandra Facchinetti, Rafael Lopez and Alexandro Palombo.
The Marangoni Method: Professional teaching and an International soul
The mission of Istituto Marangoni is to create professionals for both the Design and Fashion industries and to develop their skills and creativity.
Since its inception, the Istituto has offered a unique educational methodology – requiring today’s professionals to teach tomorrow’s generations. In addition, Marangoni offers its students the unique opportunity to take part in special projects organised in association with leading brands of the fashion and design industries such as Harrods, Chivas Regal, Fendi, Guess?, Glamour, Elle, Vogue, Giorgio Armani, Lonsdale, the Victoria & Albert Museum, Nokia, Mattel, Fiorucci, L’Oréal, among the others.
With campuses in Milan, Paris and London and over 2.400 students from 92 countries, Istituto Marangoni creates a cosmopolitan surrounding vital to the development of future creative talent.
An international soul and a business focus have always been the two main assets of the Istituto Marangoni method, both shared by our courses, our students, our teachers and all three Campuses.
