Studiengang "Master of Social Work" der HPU jetzt durch CSWE akkreditiert

HPU Master of Social Work Program Granted Accreditation

The Hawai‘i Pacific University Master of Social Work (MSW) degree program has been granted accreditation by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). The MSW now joins the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) as an accredited program.

“It is the CSWE’s certification that we have met standards relating to curriculum, faculty, and administration of the program,” said Dr. Mary Sheridan, program chair and professor of Social Work at HPU. “The BSW has been accredited since 2002, and now HPU can take its place as a fully recognized MSW program.”

Sheridan said some career fields in social work require graduation from an accredited MSW program.

“The MSW program accreditation will benefit students by making it easier to get a job, and making them eligible for licensure in Hawai‘i and most states,” she said. “It will also allow their credits to be more easily transferrable, should they need to transfer to another school.”

The process to achieve accreditation took almost four years, and included meeting requirements to qualify for candidacy for accreditation and demonstrating in intervening years that HPU was making progress toward full compliance with accreditation standards. At each step of the process, HPU was visited by a commissioner from the CSWE, and had a three-day site visit by mainland colleagues.

“We would like to thank the University, especially Dr. Leslie Correa, HPU vice president of Institutional Research and Academic Support, and William Potter, HPU interim dean of Liberal Arts, for all of their support throughout the accreditation process,” Sheridan said.
