Neues Gebäude für Student Services am College of the Desert
News vom 30.04.2010
New Student Services Building at COD!
College of the Desert is very proud to announce the grand opening of the new Donald & Peggy Cravens Student Services Center (CSSC) on April 29, 2010. The new student services building is part of the overall local bond initiative that was voted in by Californians in 2004 for a total of $346.5 million bond. This is the first major construction on our campus since it was built in 1960.
The CSSC will be the new home for the International Education Program and Intensive English Academy offices! Full services in the new building will be available during the week of June 14 with the actual move in time scheduled for the week of June 7. Contact with our office during the move-in period could be interrupted.
Student service is the important phrase as now all student services will be located in this building including:
Admissions & Records, On campus Employment, Bookstore, Counseling, Transfer Center, Career Center, Health Services, Bursars Office, and of course, the International Education Program.
Once we are officially moved in, we will send more photos for you as we are very excited about this new building.
Other projects either completed or planned as a part of the bond project include a new Nursing Complex and Public Safety Academy, refurbished Dining Hall, 2 new classroom buildings, Alumni Center and renovated library and gym facilities. Construction on campus is slated to continue until 2015.
Funding for COD Expansion:
Many people wonder how, in a time of economic crisis in California, such massive projects can be funded. Bond monies such as these are only available for construction projects and cannot be used towards classes, staffing or other. Therefore, this money is from a different funding source than what the college can use for offering classes and services. The economic downturn has actually helped the college save money in terms of construction costs as construction prices have dropped. We are hoping to capitalize on this by continuing all planned construction projects.
More importantly, the enhanced ability to serve and teach students is an important element of all construction projects. Our students will benefit immediately as new facilities open.
